New Trees Program Growing!

Sub Committee Chair: Carol Vybiral

The Green Up! Quakertown initiative is a partnership between the QA! Design Committee and Quakertown Borough. This program encourages planting trees in downtown Quakertown, to benefit from the scientific evidence that forestry tree cover is an important component in maintaining and improving quality of life in residential communities.Artist's rendering of improved landscape from new trees

On April 10th of 2007, the borough of Quakertown received 91 new trees.  These trees were secured through a grant called TreeVitalize. Committee members and other volunteers worked with Borough workers to mulch and plant the trees at entryway locations to the downtown, at the pool, in ball field and walking path areas, and other public areas. They are easily recognizable by the green mulching bags hanging from them.

In addition to the TreeVitalize program, the GreenUp committee has also been planting flower bulbs and supervises the care of the sidewalk planters along the downtown sidewalks.

To join the Green-up Mailing list to hear about future volunteer opportunities, contact info@quakertownalive.com or attend a committee meeting.

Planting Day and More

On April 10th, 2007 Green-Up Chairperson Carol Vybiral, Borough Manager Scott McElree, Councilmen Jim Roberts and Dave Zaiser, DCNR Representative Tim Dugan, and borough workers were on hand to receive 90 new deciduous trees for downtown Quakertown. This was made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society's TreeVitalize program.  The delivery was made in two parts, one from Princeton Nursery and one from Feeney's Nursery in Buckingham, PA.

The Borough will be responsible for the care of these trees, however QA! will continue to request even more for other places in town.

Design Committee Meeting: July 17th, 7 pm

Agenda: Typically discuss downtown plantings, streetscape enhancements, facade grants (when avail.), GreenUp! updates, signage guidelines and historic overly district. New ideas and topics welcome.
