Funding
  • Assure that a sustainable process is in place to acquire unrestricted and program-specific funds for the program’s operation. Est cost: $500. Fund raising goal: $100k per year ($300k)
QAMAP & Regulatory
  • Complete the Quakertown Alive Master Action Plan. Est cost: $TBD
    • Changes to the regulatory environment that favor increased economic growth and the retention of heritage resources (zoning & ordinances)
    • Streetscape and infrastructure improvements to the downtown to enhance aesthetics, safety, and encourage a pedestrian-oriented environment
    • Economic development plan
    • Sustainable process for funding these improvements
  • Implement the recommended action items in the QAMAP including regulatory improvements.
Streetscape Improvements
  • Implement streetscape improvements along Broad Street from Main Street to Hellertown Avenue, Front Street from Broad to Juniper streets, and the Front and Broad streets intersection. Est cost: $1-2 M.
  • Connect Memorial Park, the James A. Michener library, and the Senior Center to downtown using the 4th Street corridor.
  • Improve the community’s pedestrian traffic paths.
  • Develop a street traffic calming plan.
  • Develop improved methods for street traffic management.
Front Street
  • Prepare feasibility study for improving Front and Second streets through facade restorations and introduction of new retail or other compatible uses. Est cost: $25k - $50k
  • Enjoin property owners to embrace upgrades and retail space to gather momentum for changes.
  • Empower developers and property owners to implement the suggested upgrades.
  • Create a marketing campaign for new retail spaces.
East Broad Street, Belmont Street, Apple Street alley, and the Roselon properties
  • Identify zoning recommendations to improve the appearance of the area.
Business development
  • Develop programs to assist new and existing businesses.
  • Promotion of new arts-related entities.
Festivals
  • Create events that promote the downtown and benefit local businesses. Est cost: $5k to $20k per
Parking
  • Continue to upgrade and enhance the parking lot at the back of the Trolley Barn on East Broad Street.
  • Identify and maximize available parking.
  • Create a parking management plan.
Historic District
  • Market the Federal Investment (historic preservation) Tax Credit to existing and potential property owners.
  • Support the borough in its efforts to establish guidelines for new construction and/or renovations.
  • Push for zoning guidelines and encourage their enforcement.
Transportation
  • Continue to support the restoration of rail service to Quakertown.
Marketing
  • Develop and expand existing marketing for the commercial district and for the program.
  • Develop new methods for communicating in-town events. Est. cost: $3k.
